So, as Scott would like me to say, I left him for two weeks. Really this was only a week and a half and I made him all of his comfort foods before I left along with freezer dinners. Incase you want to know what these may be: Cin. rolls, spinach artichoke dip, banana cream cheesecake. The dinners I made him were: Chicken pot pie, chicken enchiladas, and pasts shells.
The reason I left was to fly to TX and then drive with my sister to Saint George, UT so she could compete in an Ironman and then tour around UT and back home to TX. Now, for those of you who don't know how cool that makes my sister, an Ironman is 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run all one right after the other. The Saint George is either the hardest or one of the hardest Ironmans available. She did extremely well and finished in 12 hours 1 minute and 34 seconds. She was 5th in her age group, so she was able to go on the podium.
It was interesting to be on the viewing side of things instead of the participating side. It made me crave running and competing again. Unfortunately, with all my recent hip stuff, that won't happen for a little while. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry I don't shout things from the roof tops.
After Meredith became an Ironman we headed out on our adventure of southern Utah. Monday we went to Zion's and hiked Angel's Landing. I loved the hike but hoped that we would have been able to hike the narrows. When we started out it was raining. Neither of us had the best clothes for the hike. When we started going back down from the top it started hailing on us. Since it was raining and hailing the whole time the waterfalls were very full on our way back down. We had to run under a waterfall and so were drenched the rest of the way. We looked so funny on the bus ride back because it had stopped raining and so we were the only ones that were drenched.
After we defrosted from the cold ride back. We drove through a snow storm to get to Brice canyon. We couldn't find a cheap place anywhere, but finally found a place for $60 and a soup and pie restaurant with only one type of soup. The theme of this trip was waking up early for sunrises to no avail and bad weather. There were always clouds in the way of every sunrise or sunset. We had a nice hike that ended with a snow storm and drove to arches and canyon lands.
We again tried to catch a sunset and sunrise with a whole lot of failure. We stayed at a little cabin that was so fun and cute. After all of our fun hikes around the parks, we found a little homemade beef jerky joint and got some delicious jerky. We drove way too late into the night and the rest the next day.
We were able to have dinner with one of Meredith's friends named Jen. It was so fun to spend the time with Meredith and make some awesome memories! Here are just a few of the pictures from our trip.
Balancing rock at arches
Our sunrise failure at canyonlands
Where they think a meteor hit.
Tunnel arch!
Cool tree at landscape arch
Pine tree arch
Landscape arch
Delicate arch!

These were only from around 1800
Me under delicate arch
Delicate arch from the other side, I don't recommend going too far over here, I almost fell to a very bad fall.
This was a cool arch on the way to delicate that you could see through to delicate arch. You have to hike up to it a little.
Again Meredith doing camel
And again!
I'm glad you did Angel's Landing! That's a great hike.
ReplyDeleteThe Narrows would have been way cool, but they're not always open, and they don't admit a ton of people. It's a sad story.
